Using Canopies to Protect Cars From Sun and Rain

A car's paint job needs to be protected from elements; thankfully, high-quality canopies can provide a cost-effective temporary shelter for any vehicle, in the event that the owner doesn't have access to a normal garage.

Paint can become discolored or even peel if it's exposed to too much sunlight, leaving the bare metal structure underneath vulnerable to corrosion damage. It also won't constantly renew itself over time and paint jobs can cost hundreds to thousands of dollars.

Thanks to their portability, affordability and versatility, canopies are one of the best potential solutions that a vehicle owner can adopt. Unlike a typical car cover, using a canopy does not risk any damage to the car when the owner removes and replaces the cover.

A homeowner having his garage renovated faces the challenge of finding a convenient place to store his car without having to pay rent. He'll also need to keep the vehicle close by for regular use, so this shelter has to be quickly set up near his home with minimal effort and without the need for another building permit.

Standard canopies are constructed from high-grade steel, ensuring they maintain their structural integrity and form even after prolonged use. A ribbed construction keeps the structure sturdy against wind and rain. Some suppliers will also go the extra mile by offering canopies that are treated with ceramic-based laminates, adding an extra degree of resistance against rust.

Most canopies have a polyethylene-based fabric for roofing, providing complete waterproofing, and protection from UV radiation. And once the garage is finished, the canopy can be easily disassembled and packed away without taking up too much space.

Other shelter-type canopies can enclose the car from the sides as well, using zippered wall panels. Although not always necessary, this would be a good option for areas with harsher weather or for car owners that are particularly concerned about UV damage in the long run.

Canopies are available in a variety of sizes. Those measuring between 10'x10' to 10'x20' feet are ideal for most standard sedans and similarly-sized vehicles. If an individual needs a larger space for a vehicle such as an SUV, there are also canopies available in the 12'x20' to 12'x30' ft. range, which can also comfortably fit boats or RVs.

If two or more vehicles need to be protected, there are also canopies within the 18'x20' to 18'x30' ft range. For individuals who manage fleets of taxis or limousines, or those in used car sales, 24'x30' ft. units can easily house up to six vehicles at a time.
